A commonly used meaning of quality is "at what extend the product or service fulfill the customer needs and expectations". This is depend on the product or service attributes such as durability, delivery, color, after sale service, cost effectiveness re-sale value and price. So it is important to know what the customer wants and what their expectations are, and organization should try to understand and try to meet their customer expectations.
Initial stage to improve quality is Market research, to know about your customer what kind of product or service they are expecting from your organization. However an organization really be effective and efficient if quality exist in all functions, all departments and be a common goal and objective for improvement.
Quality starts with market research – to establish the true requirements for the product or service and the true needs of the customers. However, for an organization to be really effective, quality must span all functions, all people, all departments and all activities and be a common language for improvement. The cooperation of everyone at every interface is necessary to achieve a total quality organization, in the same way that the Japanese achieve this with company wide quality control.
In manufacturing, Quality is a measure of excellence or flawless, according to the customer’s requirements and significant variations. It is brought about by strict and consistent commitment to certain standards that achieve uniformity of a product in order to satisfy specific customer or user requirements.
